Meet
Dr. Moravec
Let's get to know each other
Welcome! I am so glad you are here, and you are exploring whether we would be a good match to get your needs met.
How long have you been doing this?
I am a licensed psychologist, and have been practicing since 2009.
What's your therapy style?
My style is relational, and I have found that the best changes come from us having a strong relationship, and using this relationship to learn more about how you relate in the world.
What kind of training have you had?
I have a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston, which is accredited by the American Psychological Association. As part of this five-year degree program, I completed three years of supervised training in schools, at a university counseling center, and with male and female Veterans with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other issues at a Veterans Affairs hospital. I completed an accredited year long pre-doctoral internship at a Veterans Affairs hospital, and then engaged in a post-doctoral training program at the VA, specializing in trauma and anxiety disorders. I received further supervised experience as a staff member in the VA, and have continued my education through training programs in therapy modalities.
Where did you do undergrad?
At Rice University. Go Owls!
What issues do you treat?
I enjoy working with adults who want life change, want healthier relationships, and want to feel more effective at work and at home. I am a trauma specialist, and have over a decade of experience helping Veterans overcome PTSD. I have specialized training and experience treating folks with OCD, depression, anxiety, pregnancy and postpartum concerns, and sleep issues.
Who is a good fit for this type of work?
I love to meet with people who are motivated both to get to know themselves better through understanding their current and past relationships, and who are eager to make an action plan and take steps to start feeling better quickly. I find that the best results come from a combination of this in depth work and behavioral change.
What experience do you have with treating trauma, PTSD, OCD, and other issues?
I have spent many years working with clients who have trauma histories (sexual trauma, combat, accidents, and interpersonal trauma), including working in residential and outpatient PTSD programs at VA Hospitals. I have specialized training and experience using recommended, Gold Standard PTSD, OCD and sleep treatments. I have also managed PTSD clinics at the VA, and so bring a unique perspective on what works and does not work, across clients.
Why do you work with people with trauma and OCD?
I have been inspired by seeing so many individuals who have anxiety-based disorders get better, quickly, and reclaim their lives.
In what states can you treat people?
I am licensed in Texas (39394) and Kansas (LP 2257). You can verify my licensure by going to https://vo.licensing.hpc.texas.gov/datamart/searchByName.do and https://licensing.ks.gov/Verification_BSRB/Search.aspx.
I can also treat individuals in many states, due to an agreement known as PsyPact. My APAIT number is 14017. To see if your state participates, click here.
What about you, personally?
I am married, and have three children who are always teaching me new things- whether I want to learn them or not! I am also a mom to a child with Type 1 Diabetes, and would be happy to process other parents' experiences with this. I love to try new recipes from around the world, garden, and hike with my family. I also love traveling, and took the picture on this page while on a trip to Banff.
